A VERY BAD CALCULATION
Some
cost-cutting measures end up costing far more than the expenses they are
intended to avoid. The reduction in funding for global health is a perfect
example. By drastically cutting USAID's resources and withdrawing from the
World Health Organization (WHO), the Trump administration sought to prioritize
national priorities in the name of the "America First" slogan.
However, current health events reveal the limitations of this approach. The resurgence
of Ebola in Central Africa serves as a stark reminder that, when it comes to
public health, borders protect no one.
