Some journeys leave a lasting mark on a nation's history. This is precisely the case with Bienvenue Gertrude Hobain Mongo. Her appointment as head of the Congolese National Television (Télé Congo) marked a historic turning point for the Republic of Congo: to this day, she remains the only woman to have led this institution since its creation in 1962. Currently serving as communications advisor to the president of the High Authority for the Fight Against Corruption, a position she has held since October 2023, this native of Dolisie is a key figure in the country's public, administrative, and social spheres. A mother of four, she brilliantly manages a multifaceted career, combining the roles of accountant, journalist, writer, and entrepreneur.

AN ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT FORGED INTERNATIONALLY

After obtaining a scientific baccalaureate (series D) in 1990, Bienvenue Gertrude Hobain Mongo quickly entered working life.

In 1992, she began her career as a receptionist at TRANSLO-CONGO, under the management of Paul Obambi, while simultaneously pursuing studies in business administration. Driven by a strong sense of initiative, she decided in August 1994 to temporarily suspend her university studies to launch her own business. She then opened the fashion boutique "Winners," a project that led her to undertake numerous business trips throughout Africa, Europe, and the Americas, where she gradually developed her professional and commercial network.

Determined to strengthen her skills, she moved to Canada in 1999. In Montreal, she successively obtained an Attestation of College Studies (AEC) in International Business at the Brossard Institute (2000), then a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in Accounting at the Collège supérieur de Montréal (2001).

Upon returning to the Republic of Congo, she gave a new dimension to her entrepreneurial journey by creating Les Établissements Winners, a diversified group including ELLEM Boutique, Winners Food, Win’s Fashion,

HM Business Center and Win’ Resto. Driven by a desire for continuous improvement, she earned a Master 1 degree in accounting, auditing, finance, and management in Strasbourg, France, in 2018. The following year, in 2019, she founded HMB

Corporation SARL, thus confirming its status as a business leader and its commitment to economic development.

A METEORIC RISE AND A HISTORIC TENURE AT TELE CONGO

Joining the civil service in 2002 at the Ministry of Communication, Bienvenue Gertrude Hobain Mongo experienced a remarkable rise through the ranks. In 2005, she was assigned to the News Department of Télé Congo. The following year, she was appointed Head of the Information Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That same year, she earned a degree in Financial Management from Marien Ngouabi University, further strengthening her academic background. In 2007, she was promoted to Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the national television station. Between 2008 and 2009, she reached the highest level of the institution, serving as Acting Director General of Télé Congo.

This appointment marks a major turning point in the history of Congolese public broadcasting. By becoming the first woman to head Télé Congo since its creation in 1962, Bienvenue Gertrude Hobain Mongo shattered a glass ceiling that had persisted for nearly half a century. Supported by the political vision of the then Minister of Communication, Alain Akouala Atipault, this appointment represents a historic break by entrusting, for the first time, the leadership of the national public television station to a woman.

AN ASSESSMENT FOCUSED ON MODERNIZATION

Beyond the highly symbolic significance of her appointment, Bienvenue Gertrude Hobain Mongo's tenure at the helm of Télé Congo was marked by a comprehensive modernization program. Her term was characterized by the implementation of concrete reforms aimed at strengthening the competitiveness and reach of Congolese public television. Key achievements included integrating Télé Congo into the Canal+ package, signing strategic partnerships with Deutsche Welle and Euronews, and upgrading the company's technical equipment and vehicle fleet.

Through administrative challenges, entrepreneurial successes and political arbitrations, Bienvenue Gertrude Hobain Mongo has established herself through her sheer hard work.

She also paid particular attention to capacity building for staff, implementing training programs dedicated to the digital transition for journalists and technicians. Finally, her work was characterized by a proactive policy promoting women in technical audiovisual professions. In particular, she encouraged women's access to camera operator positions, thus contributing to their empowerment and better female representation in fields traditionally dominated by men.

His term was marked by the implementation of concrete reforms aimed at strengthening the competitiveness and influence of Congolese public television.

Public engagement and political resilience

In June 2012, a presidential decree appointed her to the High Council for Freedom of Communication (CSLC) as a representative of the Presidency of the Republic.

She served as Secretary-Accountant and rapporteur until 2016. During this time, particularly in March 2015, she distinguished herself through her concrete support of public and private media outlets via significant donations of technical equipment and transportation. A woman of conviction and character, she ventured into politics in July 2022. She was rejected by the Party.

Despite her activism for Yacine Koumba, she chose to maintain her vision and ran as an independent candidate in the legislative elections in the Banda district (Niari). Through administrative challenges, entrepreneurial successes, and political maneuvering, Bienvenue Gertrude Hobain

Mongo has established herself through sheer hard work. She has thus forged an extraordinary path in Congo, guided by tenacity and the pursuit of excellence.
