In the inner workings of diplomacy, some careers stand out less for the limelight than for their consistency, competence, and unwavering commitment to public service. The career of Her Excellency Édith Antoinette Laure Itoua is a prime example. Appointed on March 28, 2023, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Congo to the Federal Republic of Germany by President Denis Sassou N'Guesso, she embodies a modern diplomacy founded on dialogue, cooperation, and the development of the potential of the Congolese diaspora.

Her career also testifies to the rise of female leadership in Congolese diplomacy. Through her professionalism, rigor, listening skills, and ability to unite people around common goals, Édith Itoua demonstrates that a woman can authoritatively defend her country's interests, forge strategic partnerships at the highest level, and actively contribute to Congo's international standing.

Her career path serves as an inspiration to younger generations of women destined to assume responsibilities within public administration and diplomacy. Her appointment in Berlin thus crowned more than two decades of commitment to the Congolese state.

Before taking up her post in Germany, she served for sixteen years at the Embassy of the Republic of Congo in France, where she held the position of assistant to the ambassador. This long experience afforded her the privilege of working alongside the writer and diplomat Henri Lopes, of whom she remains one of the closest and most grateful collaborators. She recalls this period with deep emotion: "I have many fond memories of Ambassador Henri Lopes."

I learned a great deal from him. He was, for me, a great school: "the school of excellence." He didn't much like the term "excellence," even though he was excellence itself! He was the kind of person you rarely meet in a lifetime: a role model who inspires you to reach for the stars. I can't thank heaven enough for allowing me to meet this kind and great man.

Through her interactions with this leading figure in African diplomacy and literature, Édith Itoua acquired a solid grasp of bilateral and multilateral diplomatic issues, while developing a vast network of institutional relationships at the heart of Europe. This experience shaped her vision of a diplomacy founded on excellence, dialogue, and a commitment to public service.

This long experience afforded her the privilege of working alongside the writer and diplomat Henri Lopes, of whom she remains one of the most grateful close collaborators.

Convinced that Congolese living abroad are a strategic asset for the country's development, she also dedicated herself to structuring the diaspora. A founding member and the first treasurer of the International Network of Congolese Abroad (RICE), she worked to strengthen the links between the skills of the diaspora and the economic, social, and cultural development priorities of the Republic of Congo, believing that a nation's influence also depends on mobilizing its talents around the world.

In Berlin, its influence quickly extended beyond German borders. Its embassy gradually saw its diplomatic jurisdiction expand to several Central European countries.

In March 2013, the Head of State entrusted her with a major mission, appointing her Advisor to the President of the Republic and Head of the Department for Congolese Abroad. Her roadmap was ambitious: to promote the effective and multifaceted involvement of the diaspora in the country's development, to lay the groundwork for a national strategy in favor of Congolese abroad, and to deepen the understanding of migration phenomena in order to make them a genuine tool for development. She then continued her work within the Presidency, heading the Department of Social Protection, Professional Organizations, and Social Dialogue.

In Berlin, its influence quickly extended beyond Germany's borders. Its embassy gradually saw its diplomatic jurisdiction expand to several Central European countries. On December 8, 2023, it presented its credentials to the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, at the Presidential Palace in Prague, marking the beginning of a new chapter in relations between Brazzaville and Prague. A few weeks later, on January 15, it was at the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna that it presented its credentials to the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen. Carrying a message from President Denis Sassou N'Guesso, it reaffirmed the Congo's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Austria in the diplomatic, economic, cultural, and environmental spheres. This ceremony officially established the extension of its diplomatic representation to Austria.

Through these various missions, Édith Antoinette Laure Itoua is committed to raising the profile of the Congo in Europe. She works to develop political relations, promote investment, strengthen academic and scientific exchanges, and highlight the economic opportunities that the Congo offers. An experienced diplomat with a deep understanding of international relations and a keen awareness of contemporary issues, she embodies a hands-on diplomacy based on dialogue, cooperation, and the pursuit of lasting partnerships. Her career demonstrates a steadfast commitment to serving the Congolese state, the Congolese diaspora, and the Republic of the Congo's influence on the international stage.
